DANISH carrier Maersk Line is to double capacity on its Mombasa Express feeder service from its hub in Salalah, Oman to Mombasa, Kenya decreasing its voyage time to 19 days from 26 days.
The Mombasa Express deploys two vessels from its subsidiary Safmarine and is to add a further three from its Maersk African services of its Asia-West Africa FEW1 and its Asia-East Africa Mashariki Express.
The upgraded service totals five vessels average capacity of 2,497 TEU with a view to adding a sixth vessel in late January. This will increase its frequency, already down to five days from nine, to four days, according to a report from American Shipper.
Regular feeder services operate between Mombasa and Dar-re-salaam, Salalah, Sharjah, and Dubai. It has nine different loops with its East Africa feeders at Salalah which include the MECL1 of non-stop transit to New York which stops at Charleston, South Carolina, and Norfolk, Virginia.
Maersk provides a further five-ship service in its Masikka Express averaging 2,492 TEU. The port rotation is Sharjah, Dubai, Salalah, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, Salalah and Sharjah.
